Abstract: A chest of drawers is the simplest case in flat-pack furniture and the easiest to get wrong. A pull that projects from the front breaks in transit; a cabinet shipped assembled carries air across the sea. This paper sets out three specification checks for study storage and applies them to three drawer cabinets from our showroom, each built around the way the handle meets the drawer front.
1 Two Problems That Start at the Factory
A chest of drawers has one vulnerable part: whatever sticks out of the front.
In a container, a projecting pull takes the impact of the carton beside it. In a study, the same pull catches on a chair arm every time someone walks past a 40 cm deep unit.
The second problem is air: an assembled drawer cabinet occupies wardrobe volume and protects nothing that packing cannot.
2 Three Purchase Points for Study Drawer Cabinets
2.1 Handle Projection Before Front Style
A flush or cut-out pull lets the unit stand against a desk return with no clearance gap. A bar handle forces one, and in a narrow study that gap is the difference between a cabinet and an obstacle.
2.2 Drawer Load and Glide Type Before Drawer Count
Ask what a full drawer weighs. One rated for 50 lb carries a ream of paper and a stack of files; one rated for 10 kg carries stationery. Glide type decides how it feels: ball bearing runs with less friction than roller, and both need a safety stop.
2.3 Carton Volume Before Unit Price
Flat pack is a freight decision before it is a price decision. A cabinet that ships knocked down carries board; one that ships assembled carries air, and the line charges for both. Ask for carton dimensions and drop-test evidence, not only FOB.
3 Three Chests of Drawers From Our Showroom
3.1 HF-TC005 Silent Slide Rails Chest of Drawers
HF-TC005 measures 99 cm high, 81 cm wide and 40 cm deep at 42 kg, with five drawers on metal roller glides, full extension, safety stops and 10 kg per drawer. The high-gloss lacquer front carries recessed handles, so nothing projects past the drawer face — useful where the unit stands beside a desk. The smaller top drawers suit stationery rather than files.
3.2 HF-TC057 Moisture Resistant Chest of Drawers
HF-TC057 is the small-room answer: 82 cm high, 69 cm wide and 39 cm deep at 28.6 kg, with four drawers on metal slides and a cut-out handle formed into each front. Main drawer capacity is 50 lb, roughly 23 kg, and a tipover restraint is included. Drawer interiors are 9.4 cm deep and hold A4 files flat.
3.3 HF-TC021 Flat Pack Chest of Drawers
HF-TC021 measures 92.9 cm high, 114.9 cm wide and 34.1 cm deep at 48.5 kg, and combines four drawers with two doors and two interior shelves — the format that takes a printer on the shelf and files in the drawers. Ball-bearing glides, gloss white fronts and white-finished handles keep the line unbroken. At 34 cm deep it stands against a study wall without narrowing the walkway.
All three ship flat through the packing our factory has used for UK and European buyers for over a decade, tested to the SGS drop standard.
4 What This Means for B2B Buyers
Specify handle projection, drawer load and carton volume before price. A range built on those three numbers covers a small study, a shared apartment and a home office that doubles as a dining room, with fewer damage claims to answer.
